1. Learn to cook, actually do it. This one trick will cut your food budget by nearly as much as you want.
2. Go vegetarian, but don’t be picky about it. If you are offered cheap or free meat, take it. If not, don’t spend your food budget on wasteful things. Plants, especially currently subsidized grains, are the least expensive staple foods. Get them now and use them.
3. Don’t let current health fads scare you. There are many “long answers” to health questions. We've all heard them, often in a confusing fashion. The short one is simply this (despite what you’ve heard): diet plays only a minimal role in short term health. As long as you have the needed calories and most of the vitamins and minerals you can last for about a decade without any major problems. Possibly up to three or four decades. So don’t sweat the idea that you aren’t low carb, vegan, South Beach or what have you compliant while making sure you stay alive.
4. Don’t over eat.Don't start out on a restrictive rationing system. Keep your calories to what you need to maintain your weight and plan for it. No more than that. Going hungry in hard times isn’t a good idea either.
5. Don’t be afraid of fat to bulk up calories. Fat is satiating, gives favorable food texture and mouth feel and tends to be cheap. Making crackers, breads, rice or polenta with fat in it will make a large difference in how you feel about such foods. This isn’t a time to punish yourself by withholding anything based on a desire to lose weight. (You almost certainly will, even with enough calories…) Also, don’t be afraid of dying because you don’t have enough protein. Everything has protein in it. You’ll get enough for a few decades, even eating grains and veggies the whole time.
6. Be willing to be bland, but don’t forget the salt! Or other flavorings if you have them. A bit of salt and pepper can make the difference between being fairly pleased with your food and having to choke it down.
7. Finally: Always remember the first rule. Survive. Everything else is a game you play to make yourself happy. If you don’t get number one right, you won’t have a second chance.

A lot of people will swoop in with their own ideas on this topic the instant they learn of your interest in it. Some of these well meaning ideas and plans are going to be good, such as how to preserve foods for the long haul, cheap recipe ideas and action plans such as gleaning and bartering or even growing your own food, if at all possible.

Others will be going on about about personal taste preferences and their current health ideas. Those last people need to be ignored. You do NOT need to be low carb for a week-long power outage or a fruitarian to ward off zombies. What you do need is to have a bit extra on hand, know how to make it if the power is off and be able to secure fresh water. (The government currently suggests a months’ worth of food, I think.) If you are on a budget right now, say because you have food assistance, then trying to get enough hamburger and frozen foods won't work at all.

Pro Tip: If the food stamp money is running out (thanks government shutdown!), Corn meal bought in the bulk section will probably be the cheapest and most filling thing you can purchase. Learn to turn that into polenta (corn pudding/cereal) with a bit of oil and you will be full and able to survive for a good long while. Rice is also good, and if you have the extra money, buying your own refined flour and sugar can allow you to make a lot of things that will be nice to have on hand. Bread, biscuits, crackers, tortillas, cakes and cookies, pie crusts and more. True that will take a bit of know-how and practice, but right now you can still get online. If you don't have the skills needed to cook, get them now!

So make a point of buying some extra rice, beans, core meal, oil and sugar. Some leavening, spices and flavorings are great, if you have the extra funds at the moment. Then practice using such things at least a few times a week. It will not only save you a lot of money over prepared foods, but will allow you to be used to a meal of beans and rice or homemade burritos when the trucks stop moving due to the coming strike. (Planned for April 12, 2019. A one day total truck stoppage would be hard and take about a week to fix. If something happened and made it two or three days, people will start suffering and even dying from it. This one is clearly meant to be a warning shot. That doesn’t mean having a bit of extra in the cupboard won’t be welcome if the shelves empty in the stores.)

Also: If things are getting really tight, then whining about what you like to eat is moronic. Bland and boring foods that stop aching hunger are much better than having one night of pizza... Then starving for a week or worse, the rest of the month. I shouldn't have to explain this. ]]>

While all schedules are subject to review and change at any time (especially with me) this is my current plan for books to be released over the next twelve months.

1. A three book series, The Child of Frankenstein. (I’m very excited about this and plan to have it ready for release in February of this year.)

2. Once a Demon: Book Three. “As Evil Does”.

3. The Young Ancients: Untitled (as of yet). A book featuring a new character that is outside of the Baker family dynasty. A worker at the Never Ending Party on Harmony. Jacob lives a life of leisure. Right until a strange man insists he help to save people in need on Earth. Then his life changes forever as he becomes one of the Greatest High Servants to have ever lived…

4. The Infected: Underground. Not every Infected person works for the IPB. Most don’t, in fact. This is the story of a small group of survivors that have hidden from the world for too long. Now it is time for them to rise up and be seen. (This might change very greatly. I want to do something a bit spicier for the Infected. Violent and emotionally impactful. We’ll see.)

5. Gwen Harrison’s World: (That’s not the title of the series, it’s just where this takes place!) The start of a new book series that features a secret group of investigators and agents in a far off world. A public telepath, Raj Cousin of the Sultan, Patches the Joey and Peter Westmorland must work together to protect the Western Kingdom and the whole world from threats so dark that no one else can even see them coming. Financed and lead by Baroness Gwen Harrison, these men must face evil where it lives. In the hearts of the wicked. (This is actually going to be better than it sounds here. Weak explanation aside.)

6. Crystals of Memory: Book Two Anders Brolly must learn all he can before facing a personal threat from his own past. This will be the conclusion of the current story arc for that universe. (I have plans for it. I’m just not sharing much here. This is currently the most popular book series…)

7. The Shooter: To be retitled. (I don’t like that one, even if it’s a good, but dark premise). Insane Cannibal and serial murderer Jon Klaper is recruited by a group of time traveling rebels who want to ensure that the future never takes place.

Other planned works:

This isn’t really all that tentative, though they may not be (or certainly won’t be) under the P.S. Power pen name for different reasons.

1. At least two Nicole Lawson books. (Erotica) They may or may not be new works, however. (Not with the Lily Leeds main character) I use these as editing practice as well as first person writing projects. I have no particular ideas for them at this time however, though they will be coming over the course of the year.

2. At least one romance novel. (Cassie Power as pen name) I have to admit that I’m dreading doing this one a bit. It isn’t so much that it’s hard as much as being so different than my writing comfort zone. Which is why it needs to happen. It’s too easy to make everything “samey” after a while. Grow or stagnate. You can’t do both.

3. Patriot Smith: Book Two. (I think this is a Phillip. S. Power series at least.) I have some plans for it, but put it on hold for a while. It probably won’t make a lot of money, though I do enjoy working in non-fantastical worlds from time to time.

That should be about it for 2019. The one caveat is that, if I can manage it, I’d like to try and do two sets of three books to be released at one time. The Child of Frankenstein works are shorter, being about 60,000 words each. I’d like to do something a bit more substantial as well, if I can manage it.

*If I do all of this, it will be really consistent work for this year. I get lazy like everyone else, so I’m just putting this out there as being my current plan. There are actually several other books that I want to work on as well, so some replacements might be made if something simply grabs hold and won’t let go!

**Other plans for the year? That will be in my next blog update. I'm planning to try and manage at least one of those per week for the year! (Which yes, might end up being about politics or prepping, that or exercise or meditation. That pretty much sums up my life, other than some inventing from time to time...) ]]>

It's different than most of what I've worked on in the past. Mainly in that it's mainstream fiction, not genre fiction.
Still, I hope that everyone will give it a look. It's written to be very timely, and might be useful to have gone over as things change politically over the next years.
Or not.

If you read the book and like it, please consider telling other people about it? It won't make me popular, or rich. I can only try to be helpful though and pass information as I can.

Thanks everyone. This is gearing up for the big show, if I have it right.
Any help is appriciated. ]]>

1. I was told by "sources" that many high ranking people are about to be publically exposed for things very similar as what the problem is in the book "Shine".

2. I was also told, not too subtly, that at a low level, I've made the radar of such people. What they plan to do about it... Well, honestly, it won't be much. They're going to be far too busy for that.

Also...

3. There are people in the government about to mention that we've been being visited by people and beings from alternate realities. (Possibly, it will probably take twenty years or more, given how they've spoken of things in the past... Ho, hum... Foot dragging..."

The thing here is that, when this kind of data is released you may, just possibly, see some similarities between things in some of my works and what is being spoken of.

*It may also not happen at all. Which is fine. We have our own lives as well.

This does NOT mean that I copied things from other realities and turned it into books. Honest.

Will this happen for certain? Not at all. Especially the first portion. It's real, but these specific bad actors might actually be above the law. If so, then the law cannot touch them for it. ]]>

This information is currently being held back by both federal and local government. When the information comes out, there will be fears of “backlash” against the left.

The story is updating constantly. Right now there are 59 dead and over 500 wounded officially. The death count is likely to go up for the next day or two.

*Just to clarify, I am against violence. We should all strive for peaceful resolutions to our current troubles. That we might not have a choice in the matter means that this is a great time to get ready for shortages, such as gas, water, and food. Also having some type of weapon with which to protect yourself might not be a horrible idea.

If, and please note the IF, this is linked to Antifa, recall that there is a plan in place for nationwide “protests” and attacks by them on November 4th. Plans do not equal getting things done, but it will pay to stay apprised if possible.

**Note: This isn't my idea of fun information to be putting out. I'm supposed to be writing fictional books, not pointing out potentially dangerous trends. My hope is that this will end up being about very little. I just can't take that chance at present. Sorry about that. ]]>

As many of you no doubt know already, the National Football league managed to drum up a fake new scandal in the last week or so. How? By not standing for the national anthem, instead kneeling.

Why?

Ah, that one is a different kettle of monkey’s altogether. Some of them claim it is an anti-Trump thing, meant to insult the President and show that they plan to fight against him in the coming civil war. Others are doing it for the publicity. I think a few were blackmailed into it, by the those at the top, who want the controversy, since football is boring and you have to give the fans something for their money.

I only really have one issue with this kind of protest. I’ll get into that in a moment. First, since I will no doubt be hearing all about this later, here is my complete (and non-sarcastic) list of what I feel about the situation. That way, when you attack me over it, you can hone your arguments and not be instantly refuted. (Because that would suck. I mean, you go through all that work, calling me a racist, or misogynist, only to be powned with an answer of…Nope. Try again. This will really let you get those hooks in, if you use the information right!)

1. The players, owners, watchers and even people at home have a right to not stand for the anthem. It is protected speech, clear and simple.
2. We should not call for the loss of jobs of any person for using their free speech rights in a way that does not directly harm others. You can’t call for death or mayhem, but kneeling? That is never going to be that harmful to anyone.
3. If people do not like the practice, they should boycott the games. Don’t buy the hundred-dollar tickets or overpriced jerseys. Refuse to turn the television on, and if your local bar has a game up in the background, give up drinking that night. Give them nothing, until they fix the issue.

Now for what I think is the only real problem. It is how most people view what is going on. To the players, they may be saying they are kneeling for Black Solidarity, to be Anti-President Trump, or because everyone else was doing it. (A lot of it right now is that last group. Just sayin’)

To the people at home and in the stands it carries one message, however. That these very wealthy men and women, people who have the privilege of playing a game for a living, or even singing in public to keep themselves fed, instead of working at less attractive and interesting things… Hate America. The country that allows them to do what they are doing. That gave them the ability and opportunity to play that game, sing that song and even play make believe for large amounts of money, instead of working in a mine, factory, or field.

That is the message of showing disrespect to the flag as they have been. By extension, the fans have to be thinking that, if these people so clearly hate America, and America is made up of people like them, that by extension, they despise the fans*. That’s about the biggest optics screw up that anyone could make!

*I love everyone that reads my books. I take all of them seriously and honestly assume that you are just a bit better than most people. Can I back that? Not really, but face it, you read for fun. That's a pretty good signal of intelligence. I guess that makes it easier for me than these football players, who don’t have that kind of connection?

That’s my take on this. Unless the gathering storm of hate comes down on me for daring to speak while the wrong color, I won’t be talking about it here again. After all, telling the truth, no matter how unpleasant, is the duty of all good people ]]>

Far be it from me to not do the same thing!

Here is a list of odds and ends about various stories, what I was thinking and of course, my greatest regrets. Also, note the bonus fact at the end!

1. The first book I ever worked on (and finished) was actually Shortcuts. Except that it wasn’t that good, so I held it back, rewriting it a few years later, retitling it to “Mr. Hartley”.

2. The idea for much of the Gwen Farris world came to me in a dream. One so realistic that it might have actually taken place in a different reality. They didn’t have magic, but the shiny suits, including on some women? Totally there.

3. The first Infected novel starred Stasis. Mark Steinberg. He woke up on the first day of taping his new baking show… “Cake Kings”. Only to find himself terrified and the world having stopped all around him. It was so claustrophobic and sad that I stopped after a few chapters and went with Proxy instead. A good time fun fest for all!

4. “Crayons” was the only book that I wrote specifically for another person. It is almost certain they didn’t read it. I would have heard about it from them if they had. (Even though they claimed they did…)

5. Dead End was done to prove to myself that I could put a fresh take on Zombies out. It halfway worked.

6. When I first started, I projected that I would look back in five years and think “My writing sucked back then”. I was one hundred percent correct. I project that in five more years, I’ll do the same.

7. When I started the first book, original Shortcuts, one of the main things I wanted to put in was that working hard got results, as opposed to simply being gifted or lucky. I’ve tried to put that into almost every book that I’ve written as P.S. Power. It was based on a common Japanese anime theme. (I don't even watch anime... It's just a great idea to put out there.)

8. Jake, Mickey Robson, lived in Westwood Nebraska. So did Gwen Farris. The Nicole Lawson (That’s a pen name) works take place in a Westwood that didn’t have a zombie apocalypse. Micky, Colleen Becks and several others are in the books. (They’re erotica, so be forewarned on that score.)

9. My biggest series regret was/is the Tyler Gartner series. It felt a little flat to me. Nothing about it was awful, but it has always seemed a bit uninspired to me.

10. At current count, the words written as P.S. Power books would stretch out to be four times longer than everything George R.R. Martin has ever written in book form, then come back toward Earth and still have enough left over to tickle him under the chin. (Coochie-coo little guy. Coochi-coo!)

Bonus trivia:

Nothing I have ever said about myself, as mysterious as it may be, is a lie. Except for one fact. One minor thing that I put out that would change everything…

*Also, I’m clearly trying to cultivate a man of mystery type feeling here. Just go with it. It doesn’t mean that I’m insane. I mean, it could, but you can’t prove that! ]]>

The truth is, I’m really looking forward to the coming year. It won’t be easy or simple, because a lot of people will be left disappointed when their predictions don’t come to pass.

Here are mine for the year! (Because you know, I’m really good at this kind of thing.)

1. While there will be wars, WW III will not be starting this year. It will be hinted at first in the next weeks, then again in about five to six months, but it will come to nothing. (Most will miss the hinting, so you not knowing about it doesn’t count against this.)
2. Alien disclosure will not be taking place. There will however, be hints that there are aliens out there… They will be vague though and unsubstantiated, while promising.
3. Donald Trump will be reviled, but in his first year as President manage to avoid major wars. Most problems that he encounters will be due to the extreme left attempting to tear him down at the expense of the country.
4. “Fake News” will be an almost unused term by the end of 2017. It will float around occasionally, but the MSM will stop using it, since their own incorrect stories will be pointed out that way, as well as The Onions invasion of the cabbage people. (That last isn’t literal. I just mean any wacky satire piece.)
5. There will be an economic uptick in the next twelve months, which is contrary to the current metrics.
6. P.S. Power will have at least one book in the top one hundred on the Amazon Best Sellers list. (Overall.)
7. P.S. Power will be approached by at least one studio that wishes to make a movie/show out of at least one of his properties.
8. P.S. Power will almost never use his own name in third person, outside of this kind of list…
9. The global temperature will actually cool slightly after the last three years. Those resistant to the idea that things change will claim that the last three years each being the warmest on record doesn’t count and some will claim that the cooling heralds a new ice age.
10. Donald Trump will double down on climate reality denial, claiming that China is working with aliens to fake it for their invasion plans. But then retract and claim it’s a joke.

What I’ve noticed so far.

1. A lot of people in the fasting world stop feeling hunger, or at least their normal level of it ,at about day five. That didn’t (and never has) happened for me. I did notice that at about day fourteen I really started to get that full effect finally. The very thought of food makes me feel a bit ill right now, to be honest. Which is great for not eating!
2. Health effects: So far, my breathing has cleared from it being hard to breath at times to totally clear. My joints, the ones in my fingers especially, feel much looser and pain free. (Hey, I’ve typed enough words to go to the moon and back… twice. It can be a wear issue!)
3. Mentally I noticed something on about day ten that surprised me. I woke up feeling like there was hope in the world and not like I kind of wanted to end it all. I hadn’t even noticed before that I was holding that kind of thing all the time. This is probably temporary, of course, due to the endorphins being released, but it has held for the week since then.
4. My willpower outside of food is kind of medium at present. I can do things, but have to make myself get it done. Especially writing, which normally isn’t that hard for me to make happen. I AM getting back to it however, so that’s looking up!
5. My flexibility suddenly shot up at about day eight. I’ve been stretching more, since I don’t know what’s coming and I will be moving into a more intensive exercise program at the end of this fast, but that part is interesting.
6. I do have occasional stomach grumbles, but really don’t need to eat yet. My energy does tend to flag near the end of the day, but so far it isn’t that big of an issue. I think that NOT resting in bed the whole time like medical professionals recommend for their patients is making a big difference that way. (What are they thinking? Of course bed ridden patients get weak! They know this one!)

My current plan is pretty fluid. Ideally, I’ll hold out until all the fat is gone, but that doesn’t seem likely. Barring that, I’m going to first go for twenty-one days. (I mean, I’m nearly there, right?) If that goes well and I’m not left crying in a corner, then I’m going to attempt holding out for forty days.

Past that… Well, I don’t know at all. I’m using vitamin supplements on occasion, so that part won’t be at issue. I have the fat reserves, so it’s safe enough… The real issue is the desire for my normal life back. Which kind of lacks in self-discipline, worrying over that instead of working toward my current goals.

*Note: I shouldn’t actually start starving, clinically for about… eighty more days. If you hear me going past that, then it’s a great time to chide me for being foolish! Notice though, that isn’t eighty days totally, but eighty more days… Sigh. Not that I want to starve, but it’s all thanks to extra body fat that is a detriment right now.

This is the most dangerous time period for unrest and violence in potential that I’ve seen in modern history. Almost any move made right now has the potential for bad things to come from it. (But, you know, that’s a real thing here, so we should be fine. Whew. That’s a load off of my mind… Except…)

Be safe. Be ready. Be aware of what might be happening around you. Avoid crowds, since those will be terror targets. Back up your computer data and be prepared for blackouts…

*Odds are, nothing of note will happen. Being prepared is simply a hedge against things if, by some strange occurrence, it does.

**Rumors are flying of bad things going on inside the U.S. government at this time. I will attempt to keep things updated here, if at all possible.

There is supposed "leaked" data to come from the FBI in the next few days. Standing by... ]]>
